Homemade Dog Treats rival the best!

You will have read in our previous blog post just what a high value reward a liver treat is for most dogs - in my experience they will do pretty much anything for one!

So having bought my most recent tube of Thrive Pet Foods Liver Treats (500g for £29.95), I thought I'd give making my own a go.

I bought my beef liver from the lovely guys at The Dartmoor Butcher in East Street, Ashburton - A kilo (raw) cost me just less than £3.

The recipe is really simple - the give away being that the treats are 100% liver - so there's nothing else to add!

Here's the method - quick and simple

1 Rinse livers under cold water

2 Place in a saucepan, cover with boiling water, and simmer for 30 minutes

3 Drain, and dice in to cm cubes

4 Preheat oven to 110 degrees (fan)

5 Lay cubed liver out on to lined baking sheets

6 Place baking sheet(s) into oven, and leave for 1.5 hours

7 Remove from oven and cool

Ta-dah! There you have it - 290g of 100% liver treats at a cost of just under £3 (a saving of around £12 compared to buying ready made!).

We'd recommend the following daily quantities for your K9 companion:

Small breeds 4 pieces

Medium breeds 6 pieces

Large breeds 8 pieces

Giant breeds 10 pieces

This follows the guidelines of the leading liver treat manufacturer, Thrive Pet Foods.

As always, please ensure that clean drinking water is available for your dog.

We hope you'd like to have a go at making your own too - your K9 companion will thank you for it!
